Docent (Tour Guide) Program
If you volunteer as a docent at the Wings of Freedom Aviation Museum, you will be taking on an active role in educating our visitors about aviation achievements of the Delaware Valley Region.
While aircraft displays visible on southbound Easton Road along the fenced perimeter of the former Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Willow Grove date back to the mid-1940s, the Delaware Valley Historical Aircraft Association (DVHAA; parent non-profit organization of the Museum) began to restore, preserve, and display aircraft, artifacts, and other memorabilia in a building on the naval base in 1972. In 2004, the Wings of Freedom Aviation Museum opened its doors to the public, and since that time, thousands of visitors have viewed our aircraft collection and other unique artifacts. Docents are needed to continue the success of our Museum and are greatly valued by us.
Once a potential trainee has met with the Museum’s Chief Docent, a Criminal History Background Check and Child Abuse History Clearance may be required before training can begin. Once cleared, the trainee will receive an orientation to the Museum by the Chief Docent, and additional training and mentoring will be performed by the Crew Chief and other docents on the day the trainee volunteers at the Museum.
Our goal is to have a first-class museum with first class people, so let’s start today!

Student Volunteers
Students must be 14 years of age or older to volunteer with the Wings of Freedom Aviation Museum. Signed Parental Consent is required for those under the age of 18. Criminal Background Check and Child Abuse History Clearance will also be required. Duties will be defined by the Museum Crew Chief on the day the student volunteers at the Museum.
To volunteer in the Restoration Area, students must be 18 or older and must also complete a Criminal Background Check and Child Abuse History Clearance.
