Vought F8U-1 “Crusader”
The DVHAA’s F8U-1 is Bureau# 143806. This type of aircraft became the first jet aircraft to fly faster than 1,000mph. It played an active role during the Vietnam War. The aircraft began its service in December 1957 at NAS Alameda, CA, and ended its career at NAS Willow Grove. Both Navy and Marine Reserve Fighter squadrons used this aircraft. The DVHAA acquired the aircraft in the 1970s and placed it on display.
